Homestay

Sunday
It was quite nice, sleeping on the sofa. Just that it wasn't the right length. Anyway, I got up, washed up and headed down for breakfast. The other two weren't awake yet. And so I found Mr and Mrs Crawford in the living room watching the news, with Aero on the couch beside Mr Crawford. I was asked to help myself to the cereal, milk and fruits on the table, and so I did, though I felt a wee awkward. Halfway through, the other two came down and joined me. After washing up my bowl, I joined Mrs Crawford on the couch. Church was at 11 so we still had around an hour.
After preparing ourselves, Mr Crawford drove us to The Church of Scotland. Well, one of them. And it's not catholic! Oh, Mr Crawford didn't join us in church. We were a wee early so Mrs Crawford introduced us to the people in the hall. The Waldron girls came a few minutes later. We met Sam the Youth Pastor, John and his brother, some Sunday School teachers and the congre's pastors. I remember Mrs Crawford saying that none of the adults knew what the youths did up there, and there's occasionally food going up there. Haha. After chatting with John, we went into the sanctuary and sat with him, Sam, Mary and Claudia. After three hymns, the Sunday School kids played a game against the adults. It's a test on a certain Bible character, and it differs each week. When you answer correctly, you get to stick a counter on the board. The first team to make it from one side to the other of the board wins. The congre is told which character it will be the week before so they can read up. But apparently the kids are given the questions before hand, so they always win. I mean, they knew the answer before the whole question was asked!
Anyway, after that we headed to the youth room and we had to go through some room to get out then pass through the kitchen, through another room, unlock a door at the back of the church, up the stairs and finally we arrived in a little room with 3 walls lined with chairs, and three tables on corners. First we played the "Two Truths and One Lie" game. Mine was 'My passion is camping' (kinda exaggeratted) and 'I only listen to Christian youth songs' (unless you count advertisments and the car's radio) as my truths, and 'I'm in my youth ministry's worship committee' (I'm in Congre Care) as my lie. And no one got it right! Well only Sam, Mary, John and Claudia guessed so... Apparently the rest of the youth were away on holiday. Oh, the rest. Sam is 23 (that's his truth)! Haha my youth pastor is 30, and Tim Song is 23. Mary doesn't play an instrument (lie), and John's middle name is Chako (truth) and he wears size 8 (lie was 9). And then we played 3 rounds of Mafia! Same as werewolves, but 2 mafia only, no special roles. I was mafia in the last round, but died immediately. Sad, but normal.
Anyway, we went back down to the corridor outside the hall and sanctuary and waited for the adults. I talked to John about how my Youth has our sessions, which is so super different. When they came out, we met Mr Crawford who brought us to Woolsworth as Mrs Crawford had counting duty to count the offering. So the three of us looked around Woolsworth while he went to the Auld's coffee shop. Awhile later Mrs Crawford came and helped me find what I was looking for: sweets for birthdays for church. 30 packets for 2pounds! Then we went back.
Lunch was baked beans on toast. Not very filling, but still unique! Well, unique for us. It's so hard to cut it properly, and eat it with the beans still on the toast. Haha Mr Crawford kept gesturing me to eat it with my hands until Mrs Crawford scolded him.
Then was the trip to Cumbrae. It's in a separate post.
Dinner was the best meal during homestay! Haha it was a potato-size serving of mashed potato, minced meat and lots of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and peas! Yay I love veges! Haha! Dinner was really delicious! And filling too. Mr Crawford was shaking a thumbs-up at me when I finished my serving. Jiahua doesn't like her peas so she gave them to the dogs who licked the plate clean. They're so cute!
After dinner I sent Ruth an email. Ruth is a Scottish Guide from 1st Strone (Guides unit, all the Scottish Guides in Campbell are in 1st Strone) who lives in Dunoon. She got a little gift for always being ready to help, for being the most helpful. sigh
Mrs Crawford came in and she asked what I was doing so I told her. Then she told me that the sofa was a sofa-bed, and helped me to take it out. So when I went to sleep, I laid my foam mat on the mattress, wore my jacket and slept. It was a cold night.
