Chiang Rai, March '09
From 14 to 18 of March 2009, a group consisting of 35 girls and 4 teachers from St Nicholas Girls' School went on a CIP mission trip to Catholic Mission of Wiang Kaen, Chiang Rai, Thailand. There, they got to interact with the children staying there, work in the fields, visit a nearby Hmong village, and see the famous Mekong River. Each of them had a life-changing experience, learning to think of others before themselves. Each of them grew in ways you could not in a city environment. Each of them learned to open their hearts to strangers unselfishly, to love. And each of them left some part of their hearts behind.
Teachers: Mrs Gloria Gurung, Ms Praveena, Ms Jacqueline Lee, Ms Sharon Law
Group 4: Chermin (L), Rachel Koh, Me, Qi Hong, Jolene Ng, Charyl Tan, Shang meei, Cheryl Lee, Perpetra
Day 1
Everyone met at the airport, Terminal 1, at 0530. Checked in, wandered around. Boarded the flight to Bangkok. Sat in between Ms Praveena and Roseann. Two hour flight.
At Bangkok airport, Nicole Yue, Rachel, Raeann, Cherie, Charissa and I wandered around. Had hotdog for lunch, then we had to meet back at allocated point to board the plane to Chiang Rai. Sat between Alethea and Samantha. One hour flight.
Took a mini bus to Big C, the shopping centre. Walked around, then had beef ball noodles as dinner at the food court. Took the mini bus to the Mission Home. It was a two hour ride.
Arrived at close to 2030. The kids were watching Tom and Jerry on the TV. After they were sent to bed, we had a briefing and were similarly sent to our dormitories. Slept in the lower dorm.
Day 2
Woke up at 0400 by accident. Someone forgot that Thailand was one hour behind instead of in front. Wandered around to pass the time. Remembered to removed my sandals before stepping into the void deck. Had breakfast at 0730. Sticky porridge with I-can't-remember. Superb. Sister talked to us about her life.
Had Mass in the church above the void deck at 0900. Didn't feel very good. Then we played with the kids some hand games.
Had lunch at 1200. At 1330 at the void deck, we were each paired up with a buddy. Mine is Umpon, the littlest girl there. Haha she giggles randomly and would hold my hand and stroke my fingernails. Oh there's this pair of identical twins named Yupin and Yupun. Yupun is quite rough compared to Yupin. We played games organised by Marie, a Singaporean who speaks Thai. After that, we were free to play games like soccer, basketball etc. Some NPCC girls played basketball against Ms Law, Ms Praveena, a Thai girl and some of us. I joined in a late. Then we played with some of the older Thai children. Ms Law got injured. (Should have ran to get my triangular bandage, idiot I am) After that, only Supapom and I remained. Practiced shooting for a short while, then she left to take a shower. Returned the ball to the cupboard, then wandered around. Didn't shower since I didn't feel dirty.
Had dinner with the kids. Kitichai's very cute. FYI, Kitichai's a guy. After that, we played more games on our own, like london bridge. Really love the Beebeepo game. Slept at around 2200.
